1. Introduction

This Refund & Cancellation Policy explains the rules governing cancellation requests, refunds, policy withdrawals, and related matters for insurance products purchased through MRIA Insurance Agents, Sub-Agents & Consultants Ltd ("MRIA").

By purchasing an insurance policy through our website, customer portal, digital services, or any other distribution channel operated by MRIA, you acknowledge and agree to this Refund & Cancellation Policy.

This policy should be read together with:

Where insurer-specific terms differ from this policy, the insurer's terms shall prevail.

2. Nature of Insurance Products

Insurance products are financial services and are generally issued immediately or shortly after successful payment and completion of the application process.

Customers acknowledge that insurance policies may become active immediately upon issuance and may be relied upon for:

  • Immigration applications
  • Residence permit applications
  • Visa applications
  • Employment requirements
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Travel purposes
  • Other official purposes

As a result, cancellation and refund rights may be limited once a policy has been issued or used.

3. Cooling-Off Period

Subject to applicable law and insurer requirements, customers may request cancellation within fourteen (14) calendar days from the date insurance documents are received, provided that:

  • no claim has been made, reported, or notified;
  • the policy has not been used for any official purpose;
  • the insurance cover has not been relied upon for immigration, visa, residence permit, employment, or similar applications;
  • no fraudulent or misleading information has been provided.

Where these conditions are satisfied, the customer may be entitled to a refund in accordance with the insurer's terms and applicable law.

4. Cancellation Before Policy Issuance

Where payment has been completed but the insurance policy has not yet been issued:

  • the customer may request cancellation;
  • the transaction may be voided or refunded;
  • a full refund may be provided.

MRIA reserves the right to verify the status of the application before processing any refund.

5. Cancellation After Policy Issuance

Once an insurance policy has been issued, cancellation requests will be handled according to:

  • the insurer's cancellation rules;
  • applicable legislation;
  • the policy wording;
  • any applicable administrative requirements.

Any refund entitlement shall be determined by the insurer and may be subject to:

  • minimum retained premiums;
  • short-period rates;
  • administrative deductions;
  • insurer cancellation fees.

MRIA cannot guarantee that a refund will be available after policy issuance.

6. Non-Refundable Circumstances

Refunds may not be available where:

Claims Activity

  • a claim has been made;
  • a claim has been reported;
  • circumstances likely to give rise to a claim have been notified.

Official Use

  • the policy has been submitted to immigration authorities;
  • the policy has been used for a visa application;
  • the policy has been used for a residence permit application;
  • the policy has been used for employment or regulatory purposes;
  • the policy has otherwise been relied upon for any official purpose.

Fraud or Misrepresentation

  • false information has been provided;
  • material facts have been withheld;
  • fraudulent activity is suspected.

7. Travel Insurance Policies

Travel insurance policies may contain specific cancellation provisions.

Cancellation of a trip does not automatically entitle the customer to cancellation of the insurance policy or a refund of premium.

Where applicable, travel-related losses may instead be considered under the Trip Cancellation section of the policy, subject to:

  • policy terms and conditions;
  • covered causes of cancellation;
  • supporting documentation requirements;
  • insurer approval.

Customers should refer to the specific travel insurance wording for details.

8. Employer's Liability and Business Insurance Products

For employer's liability insurance and other commercial insurance products:

  • cancellation rights may differ from personal insurance products;
  • insurer-specific cancellation rules may apply;
  • refunds may be calculated on a pro-rata basis or other approved method.

Business customers should consult the relevant policy wording.

9. Cancellation by the Insurer

The insurer may cancel a policy in accordance with the policy wording and applicable law.

Where cancellation is initiated by the insurer and no claim has occurred:

  • a refund may be payable for the unused portion of the policy period;
  • such refund shall be calculated in accordance with insurer rules.

MRIA does not control insurer cancellation decisions.

10. Refund Processing

Where a refund is approved:

  • refunds will normally be processed to the original payment method used;
  • refunds may be processed through the payment provider used during purchase;
  • additional verification may be requested before processing.

Refund processing times may vary.

Customers should allow approximately 5–14 business days for funds to appear, depending on:

  • payment provider;
  • card issuer;
  • bank processing times;
  • international payment systems.

11. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

Customers are encouraged to contact MRIA before initiating a payment dispute or chargeback.

Where a chargeback is initiated:

  • policy coverage may be suspended where permitted;
  • policy issuance may be delayed;
  • supporting documentation may be provided to the payment provider;
  • insurer notification may be required.

Fraudulent chargebacks may result in cancellation of services and legal action where appropriate.
